Gastro-Intestinal Radiology post-CCT Fellowship
There is a one year fellowship in GI radiology based at Bristol Royal Infirmary for Registrars who have completed their 5 year radiology training, are eligible for CCT, and who wish to gain sub-specialty experience in GI and abdominal radiology and intervention.
A wide range of experience is available within these sub-specialties including plain radiography; upper GI, small bowel and lower GI barium studies; ultrasound studies including the use of ultrasound contrast media; CT and CT colonography; liver and abdominal/pelvic MRI; radionuclide imaging; imaging guided biopsy and drainage; percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography and biliary stenting; transjugular liver biopsy; image – guided radiofrequency ablation of tumours; urological interventions such as percutaneous nephrostomy and ureteric stenting; colonic stenting; transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunting (TIPSS); and transarterial chemoembolisation.
The Radiology staff maintain a central role at regional upper GI and hepatobiliary cancer multidisciplinary team meetings, local lower GI cancer and Urological cancer multidisciplinary meetings. Non-cancer clinicoradiological meetings in upper GI surgery, hepatology, hepatobiliary/pancreatic surgery and lower GI surgery are also supported.
The extensive and varied case mix lends itself to audit and original research opportunities, which the consultant staff are keen to support.
The post holder takes part in the radiology registrar on-call rota at BRI.
The Fellowship is supervised by Dr Mark Calloway at BRI. The post is advertised and appointed formally. It tends to be vacant from August annually.
