Department profiles

The interventional radiology department at the Royal United Hospital, Bath performs around 900 procedures per year ranging from PICC lines to complex endovascular aneurysm repair. There is a well developed endovascular aneurysm repair programme and over 300 cases have now been performed in Bath. Around 50-70 EVAR cases are performed annually using a range of grafts. The RUH is the only centre in the southwest performing fenestrated and branched EVAR and receives tertiary referrals. There is a good peripheral endovascular case mix and the service is well supported by three vascular surgeons. Regular radiology/vascular surgery meetings are held. A large volume of non-vascular interventional radiology eg nephrostomies, ureteric stents, PCNLs, gastrostomies and biliary procedures is performed, driven by four urologists and a well developed multi-disciplinary GI service.

Southmead is a tertiary referral centre for renal medicine, so in addition to the general interventional repertoire and further uroradiological procedures, the postholder will gain exposure to dialysis fistula work and the interventional radiology of renal transplantation. Carotid stenting is also performed at this site.

The person specification is used for both shortlisting and selection purposes for recruitment to Specialist Registrar Training programmes.
